DuHope creates a safe and holistic way for women to exit sex work while walking alongside them in faith, hope, love, and dignity.
Selling her body for as little as one dollar per client, the women at DuHope are desperate. Most came from traumatic situations as a result of the 1994 Genocide Against The Tutsis. Of those, some were orphaned and thus not given opportunities for education as children and some were left widowed with no support system. Several have suffered traumas as a result of poverty causing them to leave their villages and come to the capital city of Kigali to find jobs only to end up without a way to survive. Others have become pregnant and are hopeless as to how to care for their children. Lacking education or skills, the only asset these women could see was selling their own bodies.
DuHope is a social enterprise started by Belay Global. We provide a holistic approach to care for these women. They receive needed counseling, childcare and social worker services. With daily Bible study, we care for their spiritual needs to discover Jesus. And with essential training such as HIV/AIDS, jewelry-making skills and soft skills, they are being empowered to live healthy, purposeful lives.
