Committing to Serve Others with Excellence
As we continue reflecting on our yearly theme of ownership, this month we focus on what it means to take ownership in service—serving others with commitment, intentionality, and excellence.
Serving others isn’t just about helping when it’s convenient or easy—it’s about making a deliberate choice to love people through action. True service is rooted in humility, care, and a desire to reflect God’s heart in all that we do. And ownership in service means we don’t wait to be asked—we step up, take responsibility, and give our best, every time.
Jesus modeled this perfectly. In Mark 10:45, we’re reminded:
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Ownership in service means following His example—choosing to serve not for recognition or reward, but because we know it honors God and brings dignity to others.
This heart of service came to life recently at DuHope. As the rainy season began this year, several of our artisans experienced significant damage to their homes. One woman’s roof completely collapsed. One of our youngest staff members, seeing her situation, approached Jamie, the Director of Belay Global, and simply asked, “Can we do something to help her?” Without hesitation, Jamie said yes. “Get with the team and figure out how we can help.”
That simple question sparked a team-wide response. The leadership team put their heads together and came up with an amount we could donate to support her in rebuilding her home. This act of service wasn’t assigned, required, or scheduled—it was ownership in action. It was love lived out through intentional support and community.
At DuHope, service is at the center of our mission. Whether it’s working directly with artisans, caring for children, encouraging a teammate, or simply completing a task with excellence, we believe every act of service matters. When we own our role in serving, we create an environment of ubuntu—a shared humanity where everyone thrives when we care for each other well.
To serve with excellence doesn’t mean being perfect. It means showing up fully, being dependable, learning from mistakes, and constantly asking: How can I serve better? How can I reflect God more in the way I love and support others?
Ownership in service is not just about what we do—it’s about how we do it. It's serving with joy, with intention, and with a heart committed to excellence, no matter how big or small the task.
