Devotional Story on Generosity

September's devotion was focused on generosity.

Generosity is giving; mourning with those who are mourning, comforting those who are hurting, being a trustworthy resource, and so much more. Generosity is the virtue of giving without expecting anything in return.

This month, the artisans were asked questions about generosity, such as, “What do you understand by the term generosity? What is the greatest gift from God that demonstrates his generosity? What are some of the gifts you have in your lives that show God’s generosity?"

Jesus Christ is a unique gift to us and a sign of God's generosity. He was given to us when we were undeserving for no price. No human being is able to give us such an incredible gift. We never did and never will do anything to deserve such a precious gift.

One of the artisans shared with us her testimony of generosity how after the 1994 Tutsi Genocide she took care of some of the orphans.  The artisans also shared what they believe are great gifts God has given to them out of his incredible generosity, such as life, family, wisdom, children, the ability to make choices, and the ability to be mothers.
We read Bible verses that encourage us to live a generous life:
Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Proverbs 11:25 “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done."

1 Timothy 6:18 “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share."

Mathew 5:42 “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

True generosity is when you are able to give your all and yet you feel as if it cost you nothing. We don’t give because we have enough, but because our hearts are bigger. What we have has been given to us by God and the resources we possess are assets to be invested in the kingdom.  I pray that we fully grasp what it means to live a generous life through the gifts God has given us to change this world for the better.
