Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness
In the Bible, we are often encouraged to cling to what is good and stay far from what is evil. At its core, goodness encompasses more than just morality or ethical behavior; it reflects a heart transformed by God’s love, radiating kindness, integrity, and generosity towards others—an outward expression of God’s Spirit in us. It is not that we simply stay away from that which is evil, but we strive to fight against such things with goodness.
"He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?"
Micah 6:8
Through the DuHope program, we see women embrace this in their lives. We have witnessed the transformation from quarreling, spiritual warfare, substance use, and broken relationships to lives dedicated to justice, fairness, kindness, and friendship. Our newest cohort has dedicated time to getting to understand each other better so that they may strengthen their relationship, free from judgment and conflict. They are generous to one another, helping out of their own small financial means when another is in need.
How much goodness would we see in the world if we all replicated this commitment? The commitment to treating each other fairly, free from judgment, being generous, holding fast to justice and fighting against evil. I am encouraged by the effort I see from DuHope artisans and seek to follow in their example.
