Understanding & Living Out God’s Call

As we continue our journey through the yearly theme of ownership, this month we reflect on what it means to take ownership of our purpose—specifically, the purpose God has placed on our lives.

This season of Lent gives us a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and realign. Lent is a time of surrender, of removing distractions so we can focus more clearly on Jesus. It’s a time to return to the heart of who we are and why we’re here. In many ways, it’s the perfect season to ask: Am I living out God’s purpose for my life?

Taking ownership of our purpose begins with seeking to understand what God is calling us to. Each of us has been created with intention. We are not accidents, nor are we here by chance. God has designed each of us with gifts, experiences, and passions that He wants to use for His glory. Ownership means we don’t wait for purpose to find us—we actively seek it in prayer, through Scripture, and in community.

"Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." -Romans 12:1

Living out our purpose means giving our lives fully to God, choosing to serve Him in the everyday moments as much as in the big decisions.

At DuHope, we talk a lot about guhamagarwa—our calling. When we take ownership of our purpose, we embrace our guhamagarwa not just as something spiritual, but as something practical. We live it out through our work, our relationships, and even in our struggles. Whether it’s creating beautiful handmade products, caring for children, or supporting others in times of crisis, we do it with intentionality—knowing that it’s part of the bigger picture God is painting through our lives.

Taking ownership of your purpose doesn’t mean you have all the answers. It means you say yes to the journey. It means you’re willing to trust God with the unknowns, to step forward in faith, and to keep seeking Him as He reveals each next step.

This Lent, may we slow down enough to listen to God's voice again. May we return to His Word with open hearts and ask Him to renew our sense of calling. And may we have the courage to live out our purpose boldly—with ubudahemuka (faithfulness) and joy.

At DuHope, we empower women to take ownership of their purpose by providing dignified work and discipleship. You can be part of this mission by giving today. Your support helps women walk confidently in their guhamagarwa, transforming their lives and communities.
